Standard Five: Health and Safety

5.5 The sponsoring institution and/or program have policies and procedures
that safeguard the health and safety of students.

Explanation:

Appropriate health and safety policies and procedures assure that students are part of a safe, protected
environment. These policies must, at a minimum, address campus safety, emergency preparedness,
harassment, communicable diseases, and substance abuse. Enrolled students must be informed of
policies and procedures.

Required Program Response:
• Describe how institutional and/or program policies and procedures are made known to enrolled
students.
• Provide institutional and/or program policies and procedures that safeguard the health and
safety of students.

Possible Site Visitor Evaluation Methods:

• Review of published program materials
• Review of student records
• Interviews with faculty
• Interviews with students
