JRCERT Update
upcoming centennial celebration. JRCERT has a very
collaborative relationship with ASRT and has partnered
with them on numerous endeavors throughout the
years. In fact, this partnership has worked to elevate
the profession of radiologic technology since 1944,
when the American Society of X-Ray Technicians
(now ASRT) and the Council on Medical Education
and Hospitals of the American Medical Association
(an organization that is now dissolved but used to be
part of the American Medical Association) developed
“Essentials of an Acceptable School for X-Ray
Technicians,” which were the precursors to today’s
accreditation standards and provide guidelines for
evaluating programs using the peer-review process.
That collaboration continues today, including efforts
such as the JRCERT Standards for an accredited
educational program. 1
The evolution of ASRT is astounding; JRCERT is
proud to be part of its history and excited to be part
of its future as the organizations work together to
ensure the quality, advancement, and longevity of the
radiologic science profession.
Leslie Winter, MS, R.T.(R), is the chief executive
officer of the Joint Review Committee on Education in
Radiologic Technology.
